Dengue emergence in the temperate Argentinian province of Santa Fe, 2009-2020

López MS, Jordan DI, Blatter E, et al. Dengue emergence in the temperate Argentinian province of Santa Fe, 2009-2020. Sci Data. 2021;8(1):134. Published 2021 May 20.

Dengue, once confined to tropical and subtropical climates, is spreading to temperate ones such as Argentina.

This article examines the increase in dengue cases in Santa Fe Province and describes case fluctuations from 2009-2020 across both space and time. The authors note a steep increase in dengue cases in Santa Fe in the last ten years with four dengue outbreaks; they postulate the number of dengue cases peaked in 2020 in part due to the COVID-19 pandemic necessitating greater amount of time indoors.

The study relied on reports provided by the Argentinian National Ministry of Health. Researchers can turn to this article to examine data presented on dengue emergence in Santa Fe.  https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34016998/
